The flowing rooms and unadorned walls let the lines of tall-back leather chairs, ottomans, and white crown molding and bar shelving stand out - and the colors/light from the fireplaces and crystal chandeliers give the rooms a sincere ambience. We didn't have our camera, but found this photo tour on Metromix (trust us, it's even better on a dimly lit night with cocktail in hand).

The Violet Hour's color scheme and sidecar or manhattan-drinking vibe reminded us a bit of The Peacock bar in Austin, TX.
Whether you've been in person or this is your first glimpse, how do you feel about the blue, moody decor?
Wow! I haven't been in that space since it was MOD. I'd say they remodeled.
I have to say I really like the blue. It is very similar to the paint I have been using in my bedroom.

The space is really well done, but even more striking is the overall attention to detail in the design of the total experience. The Violet Hour is definitely taking the lounge concept into fresh territory for Chicago.

I love this place! The cocktails are amazing and they don't let people mill around-- if there isn't a table open, you can't come in. I have often commented that I wish it were actually panted a shade of violet, instead of blue....I know that might be too literal for some people.......

I think this place is beautifully decorated but has the worst attitude of any lounge I've ever been too.
After a wedding this past September, a group of us stopped by to check it out. After waiting across the street at Pontiac for at least 1 1/2 hours for a table, we came back to check on our table they finally were going to seat us. Well, during that time 2 people went home after tiring of the wait. So, they made us put our name in again for another reservation with another hour wait.
I have been to many clubs/many bars/ many places in this city and love the exclusive nature of something new. But the attitude of the bouncer and watching pretty girls slip in while we're waiting was very very rude. I would not go to this place if all the bars in the world dried up.
Overall, a great decor with attitude to match.

Good heavens, how boring a space could there be?

I can see the similarity to the Peacock bar but one significant difference I see is that the Peacock bar has groups of chairs facing each other throughout the space.
At Violet Hour it looks like you are relegated to your own little area separate from everyone. In addition, if you are stuck in your little area, you cannot see the bartender's flair which is supposed to be the allure of the place.
I'm just surprised. I have been planning on going there and have heard a lot about it so I guess I had pictured it differently.

I love the chevron-patterned floors!

The decor in person is beautiful. If you want a seat, make sure your whole party is there or they will only seat the number that are there at the time. The bouncer does seem standoffish at first but he is only doing his job. We had about 10 people coming but only three were there at the time. We went to the bar, and every time someone from the party came in, he was very accommodating about letting them right in to our spot. That could have been what the previous reader kept seeing when the girl were just breezing past the line.
Its a great laid back place, perfect for a romantic date.
And again, such a beautiful decor!

the high-back chairs and booths say, "i hate you, stranger, i don't want to look at you or have you look at me".
